The CQC rates most services according to how safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led they are. After being inspected, care homes are assigned one of the following four ratings:

• Outstanding. Your care home is performing exceptionally well.
• Good. Your care home is performing well and meeting CQC expectations.
• Requires improvement. Your care home isn't performing as well as it should and CQC has told you how it must improve.
• Inadequate. Your care home is performing badly and CQC has taken enforcement action against you.

Sometimes, the CQC doesn’t rate a service. In that case, the care home will be put into the “No rating/under appeal/rating suspended” category.
